ABOUT THE PROJECT

KSB and SightSavers jointly implemented the Boresha Macho Project, a capacity-strengthening initiative targeting frontline health service providers across the Western and Eastern regions of Kenya, specifically within the counties of Kakamega, Bungoma, Busia, Kitui, Makueni, and Machakos. The programme trained Nurses, Community Health Promoters (CHPs), and Community Health Assistants (CHAs) in refractive error identification and basic eye care service delivery. By building competencies at the primary health care level, the initiative embedded sustainable eye health capacity within existing community health structures, extending KSB’s programmatic reach well beyond what direct service delivery alone could achieve. Together, the Maono and Boresha Macho projects have reinforced KSB’s standing as a trusted technical partner in Kenya’s eye health ecosystem, contributing meaningfully to the goals articulated in the National Eye Health Strategic Plan and demonstrating the Society’s capacity to deliver quality, community-centered eye care at scale.
